General introduction

Eco-design consists in dealing with environmental concerns during the product's design (when speaking of product we also refer to service or process). The attention is no more focused on a plant but on the product, watching all its life cycle.

As the purpose of these methods is to reduce the environmental impact due to the product, the most effective approach in terms of results and benefits turns out to be acting at the earliest design's stages.

Of course, the improvement of the environmental performance would not be obtained to the detriment of the technical performances expected. Moreover what we generally observes after an ecodesign action is the increase of these technical performances.

In fact ecodesign encompass several methods
that can be gathered in 2 categories :

It is the coupling of methodologies taken from these 2 categories that result in a global ecodesign action.

Our goal here is not to be exhaustive and to present all the ecodesign methodologies that exist all around the world. We just give general information on this subject and introduce our method Durabilis .

For more details refers to the Afnor's fasicle : FD X30-310 (Taking into account the environmental concerns during the product design stage).
