In 1995, Arist Limousin Poitou-Charentes and Arist Aquitaine submitted a project to the European LIFE funding ( DG XI ) which was to develop an ecodesign methodology for Small and medium-sized enterprises.
The operation started on the 01.02.96.
The 4 main stages of the project were
1/ State of the art in design and in ecodesign, definition of the Durabilis methodology, and active participation to the AFNOR standardization committee in charge of the elaboration of the fascicle FD X 30-310 (Taking into account of the environmental concerns since the product's design stage - 1998).
2/ Elaboration of the methodological tools.
3/ Implementation in SME.
4/ Communication on the Durabilis method and ecodesign awareness actions toward the regional fabric (Institutional, and industrial). As this methodology has been developed for SME, it was necessary to take into account several difficulties and constraints inherent to these entities in particular the constraints of time, cost, ease of use, in order to assure its real durability in the company.
