The functional analysis

The basic principle here is to design and to make products that suit users' needs exactly as much as possible, in order to satisfy their expectations and only their expectations. Lots of products functions offered do not correspond to a real expectation of the customer. Resorting to the Functional Analysis is an effective means to design the " just necessary ".

This method refers to the following standards:

The NF X 50-153: Value Analysis
- Recommendation for the implementation
-1985.

The NF X 50-152: Value analysis
- Fundamental Characteristics
- 1990

The NF X 50-151: Value analysis, Functional Analysis
- functional Expression of the need and the Functional Performance Specifications
- 1991.

The NF X 50-100: Functional Analysis
- fundamental Characteristics
- 1996

The advantages are first of all financial, as the company doesn't waste money in studying and producing functions that are useless. So the SME is more competitive as it can reduce its cost, improve its margins, find new customers, etc.

There are also ecological advantages, since the realization of optimized products avoids squandering natural resources and avoid all the environmental impact due to the realization of these useless parts.

Finally, as the successive product's owner needs are taken into account during the Functional analyses, designers can simplify on the one hand the operations that maximize the product's life (maintenance, easy cleaning,...), and the end of life operations on the other hands
